On March 31st, Prof. Wu Kongming, President of CAAS, met with Dr. Mohamed Zabawi, Director General of the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and exchanged views on further deepening agricultural science and technology cooperation.
Prof. Wu Kongming stated that given the high attention of the two governments, China and Malaysia enjoy flourishing agricultural science and technology exchanges and cooperation. Under the guidance of the Agricultural Ministries of both countries, CAAS and MARDI jointly established an agricultural science and technology cooperation working group, signed a MOU on cooperation and reached consensus on key cooperation areas. Because of the strong complementarity shared by China and Malaysia in agriculture, both sides agreed to further optimize the mechanism of agricultural science and technology cooperation, deepen cooperation in fields such as crop breeding, plant protection, facility agriculture and food processing as well as strengthen talent exchange and post graduate training so as to jointly provide strong scientific and technological support for agricultural development in both countries.
Dr. Zabawi agreed with Prof. Wu’s suggestions, and expressed his willingness to further deepen cooperation with CAAS in the field of agricultural science and technology. He hopes to strengthen mutual cooperation through measures such as cooperative research projects, exchange of academic visits, co-training of graduate students and joint organization of academic seminars.
Before the meeting, Dr. Zabawi and the MARDI delegation visited the National Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Park and the new National Crop Gene Bank. Responsible officials from the Department of International Cooperation of CAAS attended the meeting.
