CAAS Pragmatically Promotes Cooperation with New Zealand and Australia in Agricultural Science and Technology

On June 14th to June 21st, a delegation led by Dr. Liu Daqun, Dean of the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), visited the Massey University and the New Zealand Institute for Plant & Food Research Limited and the University of Tasmania and NRM South in Australia.

During their stay in New Zealand, the delegation held in-depth talks with Mr. Stuart Morriss, Vice President of Massey University and achieved consensus on such topics as strengthening the cooperation in joint researches on food safety, animal disease prevention and fruit trees as well as promoting postgraduate exchange and joint cultivation of PhD students. The delegation also held in-depth talks with Dr. Richard Newcombe, Chief Scientist of the New Zealand Institute for Plant & Food Research Limited. Both parties agreed to deepen the cooperation in fields like fruit tree disease prevention, food processing and preservation, with an emphasis on in-depth cooperation in researches on the sensory evaluation and consumer cognition of food, etc.
 


During their stay in Australia, the delegation had an in-depth meeting with Mr. Ken Moore, Chairman of Steering Committee for the Australia-China Sustainable Agriculture Program and Mr. Richard Holman, Vice President of the University of Tasmania. During the talks, the participants reviewed and summarized the exchanges and cooperation among the three parties, the CAAS, NRM South and University of Tasmania, in agricultural sciences and technology, discussed on the optimization and upgrading of the three-party strategic cooperation framework and working mechanisms, agreed to expand the existing areas of cooperation to include horticultural science, food science and veterinary science, etc. and discussed on ways for both parties to promote agricultural education and training.
