CAAS Deepens Agricultural S&T Cooperation with Latin American Countries
From November 16 to 22, a delegation led by Prof. Yang Zhenhai, Secretary of the Leading Party Group of CAAS, visited Peru and Bolivia for academic exchanges, further deepening and expanding CAAS’s partnerships with relevant institutions in Latin America. During the visit, the delegation reached common understanding with the host institutions on advancing germplasm exchange, strengthening joint research in priority areas, and promoting exchanges among young scientists.
In Peru, the delegation visited the National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA) and toured the headquarters of the International Potato Center (CIP), and held talks with institutional leaders. The two sides discussed cooperation in germplasm exchange, joint breeding, pest and disease management, technology transfer, and capacity building, and reached broad agreement. During the visit, CAAS and INIA signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation.

In Bolivia, the delegation visited the National Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Innovation (INIAF) and held in-depth discussions on cooperation in areas including crop science, livestock and veterinary science, agricultural resources and environment, and plateau agriculture technologies. The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation.

During the trip, the delegation also paid courtesy calls on Song Yang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Peru, and Wang Liang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Bolivia.
Officials from the Department of International Cooperation, CAAS, the Biotechnology Research Institute (BRI-CAAS), the Institute of Feed Research (IFR-CAAS), and the Institute of Urban Agriculture (IUA-CAAS) accompanied the delegation.
