Sustainable Dairy Development — The 9th International Symposium on Dairy Cow Nutrition and Milk Quality Convenes in Beijing

The 9th International Symposium on Dairy Cow Nutrition and Milk Quality, co-hosted by the Institute of Animal Science of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IAS-CAAS), the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA), and the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries, convened in Beijing, was held from May 9 to 11.

Yang Zhenhai, Secretary of the Leading Party Group of CAAS; Wang Jian, Deputy Director General ofBureau of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA); Li Jiajian, Level II Counsel, Department of Agro-product Safety and Quality, MARA; Liu Yaqing, Secretary General of Dairy Association of China (DAC); Prof. David Everett, Vice Chair of American Dairy Science Association; Dr. Jonathan Austin, New Zealand Ambassador to China; and Dr. Jo Cadihon, Agriculture Counsellor of theFrenchEmbassy in China, attended and addressed the Opening Ceremony, chaired byDirector General of IAS-CAAS Zhang Junmin.

Mr. Yang Zhenhai highlighted that fostering sustainable dairy development has become a global shared responsibility amid challenges posed by climate change and resource constraints, with scientific innovation serving as the core driver for the industry's sustainability.CAAS has achieved breakthrough progress in developing a novel feed additive, "Red Clover Extract", which significantly improves nitrogen utilization efficiency and milk yield, offering a solution to reduce costs and enhance efficiency in dairy farming.The Symposium has provided a high-level global exchange platform for the dairy sector. He called for strengthened collaboration among international experts to address shared challenges and advance the industry toward greener, healthier, and more sustainable practices.Yang concluded by reaffirming CAAS's commitment to partnering with global stakeholders, contributing scientific and technological strength to building a global community of shared future.

Themed with "Sustainable Dairy Development", this Symposium centered around three key topics: "Advances in Key Technologies for High-Efficiency and High-Quality Across the Entire Dairy Chain", "Progress in Milk Quality and Safety", and "Advances in Nutritional Quality of Animal Milk". The event featured 36 presentations covering cutting-edge scientific topics and health-related innovations. It also showcased the latest research and technological advancements in specialty dairy animal husbandry, nutritional value, and functional characteristics. The Symposium aimed to provide a global exchange platform for dairy industry professionals and experts to explore frontier disciplines, technological innovations, and future development trends, thereby driving high-quality, green, and sustainable development of the dairy sector.

This Symposium comprehensively showcased the latest advancements and achievements in China's dairy research, enhanced the country's global influence in dairy cow nutrition and milk quality studies, and contributed Chinese expertise and solutions to the high-quality development of the global dairy sector.

The event attracted over 600 participants, including leaders, experts, and researchers from universities, research institutions, enterprises, and industry sectors across China, the U.S., New Zealand, the UK, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Benin, and Zimbabwe.
