First Sino-Bulgarian Workshop on Agricultural Science and Technology Convened
The First Sino-Bulgarian Workshop on Agricultural Science and Technology was held in Bulgaria second largest city Plovdiv on July 5th, 2017. It was supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST) and the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria, and was jointly convened by Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Bulgaria Plovdiv Agricultural University and Bulgaria Plovdiv University of Food Technologies. Mr. Chen Linhao, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of MOST and Ms. Zelatiana Karova, Chief Head of Science Division, Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria, attended and addressed the Workshop. Also, Domestic representatives from universities and enterprises such as School of Agriculture and Biology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Bright Dairy attended the Workshop.
On behalf of the Chinese organizer, Mr. Wang Hanzhong, Vice President of CAAS, spoke at the Workshop. He briefed the Workshop on CAAS’ latest development in the organizational structure, fields of study, science & technology research and international cooperation, etc. He initiated the basic concept of cooperation on agricultural science and technology under strategic frameworks such as The Silk Road Economic Belt and China and Central Eastern European Countries“16+1”. Mr. Wang Hanzhong pointed out that, the Workshop carried significant meaning to the practical cooperation between China and Bulgaria in bilateral agricultural science and technology sector.
Under the support of science and technology as well as industry competent departments, Mr. Wang Hanzhong hoped to start a holistic exchange and cooperation from priority sectors such as grapes plantation, dairy products processing, garden stuff plantation and farm products processing, which is to be achieved through talent exchange, collaborative research, co-building of platform, technology sharing and technology transfer.
The Bulgarian side gave full affirmation to Mr. Wang Hanzhong’s remarks, and expressed the intent to further consult with the Chinese side and seek extensive and deep collaborations.
Experts from CAAS affiliated units such as the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute, Oil Crops Research Institute and Graduate School of CAAS attended and addressed the Workshop. The Bulgarian side engaged representative participants from universities, research institutes and enterprises to attend the Workshop and deliver speeches. About 70 experts from both sides communicated in depth on sectors of mutual interest such as fruit research, food processing and milk production and reached important cooperation consensus on co-building fruit research labs.
CAAS and Bulgaria Plovdiv Agricultural University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the witness of leaders from both sides and representatives participated in the Workshop.
