On July 14th-28th, the International Training Workshop on Advanced Methods in Green Control of Major Plant Pests was held at the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IPPCAAS), which was sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, China.  More than 60 trainees from 8 Southeast Asian countries attended the workshop online.

Zhang Yahui, Director General of the International Cooperation Department, CAAS, delivered the opening address. Professor Zhou Xueping, Director General of IPPCAAS, gave the first keynote lecture titled “Plant Health in China”. In the following days, 14 lectures were delivered by the experts from IPPCAAS and other research institutions in China. 44 trainees from Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Malaysia, were qualified for the certificates awarded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, China, and 20 of them were selected “Outstanding Trainee”s based on their everyday attendance, participation in discussion, and final test scores.

On the closing ceremony, Professor Zhang Jie, Deputy Director General of IPPCAAS, encouraged the trainees to utilize the knowledge and methods shared at this workshop in their future research and administrative work, which will benefit more people in their own countries. The trainees unanimously expressed their sincere acknowledgements to IPPCAAS and all the lecturers. They also conveyed their wishes to deepen collaboration with China in green control on crop diseases and pests.

Over the years, IPPCASS has been engaged in constructing platforms for scientific innovation, cooperation and exchanges, and personnel trainings with the Southeast Asian developing countries. The international training workshop helped to spread out advanced methods in green control of major plant pests. It was also a breakthrough for IPPCAAS in promoting the “Belt and Road Initiative” strategy and deepening collaboration with neighboring countries.
