China-Brazil Crop Germplasm Symposium held in Beijing
The China-Brazil Crop Germplasm Symposium, with the theme of sustainable development and innovation in crop germplasm, was held in Beijing from October 13 to 19. Around 30 experts from CAAS and Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JASS) and Embrapa attended the Symposium.

The symposium was organized by Institute of Crop Science, Chinese Academy of Agriculture Sciences (ICS-CAAS) and Sino-Brazilian Laboratory for Agricultural Research (Labex China). Its main objective is to implement the Knowledge Exchange Project (KEP) and promote the exchange of S&T information between China and Brazil in plant genetic resources.
Experts discussed issues related with main crop germplasm collection, characterization, evaluation and innovation in the two countries, including rice, wheat, maize, cotton, soybean, sorghum, oil crops, vegetables and food legumes. Some consensus were reached on some detail arrangements.
In 2011, CAAS and Embrapa launched the Sino-Brazilian Laboratory for Agricultural Research (Labex China). The symposium was the follow-up action of Labex China projects.
