CAAS and CGIAR Seek Mutual Implementation on Major Agricultural Strategies
On November 5th, 2018, Dr. Tang Huajun, President of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) met with Mr. Martin Kropff, Director of International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT), Mr. Matthew Morell, President of International Rice Institute (IRRI), Mr. Tony Simons, Director of Centre for International Forestry Research (ICRAF) which subordinates to CGIAR, and reached an agreement on further deepening collaboration.
Dr. Tang Huajun delivered a warm welcome to guests, he pointed out that, over the past four decades, China has constantly enhanced the breadth and depth of cooperation with CGIAR, and the results are impressive. As the world biggest developing country, since its Reform and Opening Up, China has made remarkable achievements in agricultural development, which couldn’t be done without CGIAR former contributions on resources introducing, technique support and talent training, more support and close cooperation of CGIAR would be required for future development.
CGIAR has been aiming at developing countries as its major scientific research and generalized objects. Accumulating many beneficial experiences in the process of self-development in the developing countries, they hope to share it with China. Meanwhile, at the context of the implementation of Chinese strategies like Rural Revitalization, Innovation-driven Development, etc., the subordinated centres of CGIAR wish that they could participate in domestic programmes in China to make contributions to the development of Chinese agricultural development.
Dr. Tang Huajun and Mr. Matthew Morell unveiled the nameplate of CAAS-IRRI Collaborating Centre on Photosynthetic Promotion and C4 Rice. Tang co-signed “Mexico Ministry of Agriculture - CAAS - International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre Agreement on Jointly Conducting Maize Research” along with Mr. Martin Kropff.
