On Oct 15, Dr. Osamu Koyama, President of the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), visited the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences for an academic exchange. Invited by the Agricultural Resources Utilization and Regionalization Innovation Team of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP), he delivered a lecture titled "Green Strategy" and "Green Asia" Project. The lecture was chaired by Professor Yin Changbin and attended by more than 20 scientists and graduate students. 

Dr. Koyama focused his presentation on Japan's practices in promoting green agricultural development. He highlighted the MIDORI Strategy for Sustainable Food Systems, which Japan launched in 2021. As a medium-to-long-term initiative, this strategy aims to enhance the engagement of stakeholders at all stages of the food supply chain, foster innovations to reduce environmental burdens, and is supported by the implementation of the Green Food System Law.

Dr. Koyama also emphasized Japan's focus on advancing sustainable agriculture in the Asian monsoon region. Over the past decade, JIRCAS has collaborated with NARO, FFPRI, FRA, AIST, and several universities to conduct field experiments. These efforts have led to the development of technologies that facilitate sound agricultural development in the region and the compilation of a comprehensive technical catalog. This catalog is designed to boost the production potential and sustainability of agriculture in the Asian monsoon region. Additionally, Dr. Koyama introduced JIRCAS's progress in developing Biological Nitrification Inhibition (BNI) technology. This technology contributes to the breeding of high-quality wheat varieties. He explained that the cultivation of BNI-type wheat can improve nitrogen cycling in food systems while ensuring stable agricultural output.

After the presentation, participants engaged in in-depth discussions with Dr. Koyama on related research topics. The Agricultural Resources Utilization and Regionalization Innovation Team of IARRP also provided an overview of its structure and introduced its research directions, key research achievements, international cooperation initiatives, and graduate training programs. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to maintaining close communication, strengthening cooperation, and further advancing the joint construction of the China–Japan Joint Laboratory for Agricultural Development Research.
