Institute of Grassland Research of CAAS promoted comprehensive cooperation with Institute of Plant Protection Research, Mongolia

Prof. Byambasuren Mijidsuren, the Director General of Institute of Plant Protection, Mongolia, visited the Institute of Grassland Research of CAAS (IGR-CAAS) at the invitation of Prof. Lin Kejian, the Director General of IGR-CAAS on November 2. The two sides exchanged in-depth views of areas for collaboration, including grassland biological hazards and desertification monitoring, prevention and mitigation, government-to-government project joint application and implementation, exchange of talents, as well as cooperative training. Agreements of cooperation and project joint application have been signed, and Professor Byambasuren M. has been appointed as distinguished expert at IGR-CAAS, opening a new ground for China-Mongolia research of grassland harmful organisms and desertification monitoring, prevention and mitigation.

After warm greetings, Prof. Lin Kejian introduced the basic information and research development of IGR-CAAS, especially in terms of the talents, innovation teams, platforms, and achievements. He pointed out the research directions and key contents of collaboration, that China and Mongolia are connected with similar ecology system, thus similar researches like biodiversity protection on Mongolian Plateau, and grassland harmful organisms monitoring, prevention and mitigation are the common urgent needs to advance China-Mongolia biosafety coordination and innovation system, as well as the Belt and Road Initiative. He expressed his expectations that the two sides make new breakthroughs in the fields of technology innovation, talent training, research achievements, joint laboratory, and information sharing, etc. by starting with the signed framework agreement, and elevate the technology innovation for biodiversity protection on Mongolian Plateau, grassland harmful organisms monitoring, prevention and mitigation, and promote the strength to support biosafety and ecological security for both countries.

Prof. Byambasuren M. introduced the basic information of the Institute of Plant Protection, Mongolia, and the researches of grassland harmful organisms monitoring, prevention and mitigation in Mongolia. She stated that IGR-CAAS is the closest national institute to Mongolia on both distance and researches, which has a bunch of important achievements on advancing China-Mongolia grassland harmful organisms monitoring, prevention and mitigation. It is the second time for her to visit IGR-CAAS. Honored to sign the framework agreement and being appointed as the distinguished expert, she ensured that Institute of Plant Protection, Mongolia will effectively deepen partnerships with IGR-CAAS.

Prof. Wang Chuan, Deputy Director General of IGR-CAAS, along with over 20 representatives from Inner Mongolia Normal University, Locust and Rodent Prediction and Control Center of Xinjiang Forestry and Grassland Administration, Pest Control and Quarantine Station of Inner Mongolia Forestry and Grassland Administration, Institute of Plant Protection of CAAS and IGR-CAAS attended the meeting.
