Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science Seeks to Deepen Agriculture Technology Cooperation with the “Belt and Road” Countries
On March 18 to 24, a delegation led by Dr. Wan Jianmin, the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), visited Bangladesh and Thailand. Consultations were held on strengthening scientific and technological cooperation, capacity building, and promoting the development of local agriculture during the visit in Bangladesh and Thailand, especially at the establishment of joint laboratory and capacity building.
During his visit in Bangladesh, Dr. Wan Jianmin held talks with the president of the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University and the deans of its affiliated colleges, as well as delegations from Bangladesh Agricultural Practitioners Association. Discussions were made on cooperation in the fields of plant protection, crop breeding, animal disease prevention and control, fruit tree research and graduate education. Both sides reached consensus and signed the Memorandum of Scientific and Technological Cooperation with Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in Bangladesh. The delegation also visited laboratories of the University, investigated the high yield field of Bengal rice and participated in the technology extension promotion activities, all of which had a great significance in promoting CAAS’ mature technology and products in Bangladesh, raising local agricultural production level and strengthening the good international image of CAAS.
In Thailand, Dr. Wan Jianmin visited the Thailand Kasetsart University. The two sides signed a Memorandum of Scientific and Technological Cooperation and the Agreement on Establishment of a Collaborating Centre for Edible Legumes. Both sides agreed to further cooperation on strengthening agricultural technology with mutual benefits, promoting agricultural development and improving agricultural technology innovative capacity both in China and in Thailand.
The president of Thailand Kasetsart University expressed that he would send a group to CAAS as soon as possible to further the pragmatic cooperation. Dr. Wan Jianmin also visited the Thailand National Gene and Biotechnology Center and Fragrant Rice Processing Plant of CP Group.
Heads of CAAS’ Institute of Plant Protection, Institute of Crop Sciences, Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, China National Rice Research Institute as well as the Department of International Cooperation accompanied the visit.
