CAAS Vice President Prof. Wu Kongming Meets with Delegation of Bioversity International
On November 21th, 2017, Prof. Wu Kongming, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) met with the delegation of Bioversity International led by Marton-Lefèvre, Julia, Chair of Bioversity International Board of Trustees and Tutwiler, M. Prof. Wu Kongming noted that since 1970s, the two sides have conducted fruitful collaborations in crop germplasm resources exploration, protection and utilization, talent cultivation, academic exchanges and other areas. China has always attatched great importance to taking advantage of biodiversity in promoting sustainable agricultural development and is planning to make full use of science and technology to propel the implementation of rural vitalization strategy as well as to achieve sustainable environmental and ecological development. Considering that Bioversity International has salient strength in the overall research of agricultural biodiversity, China would like to keep taking an active part in the activities and research programs organized by Bioversity International, take the Belt and Road Initiative as a chance to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, push forward the output and extension of scientific research, strengthen talent and scientific capacity building and make concerted efforts to contribute more to protecting biodiversity, safeguarding food security, promoting human nutrition and facilitating global sustainable development.
Tutwiler, M. Ann and Marton-Lefèvre, Julia expressed their gratitude to CAAS for its consistent support for the bilateral cooperation and their willingness to bring into full play the scientific advantage of Bioversity International to actively popularize the concept and output of protecting biodiversity for disease control, improving nutrition and promoting resilience to environmental changes and risks. Bioversity International would like to give full support to and take an active part in the implementation of agriculture-related programs proposed in the Belt and Road Initiative, besides, they called for China to be positively involved in their newly proposed projects of Agricultural Bioversity Index and Seeds for Needs, to provide effective support for sustainable development of environment, agriculture and biodiversity.
