Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor Richard Masterman of the University of Nottingham, UK Visits IFST
On September 7th, 2018, a delegation headed by Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor Richard Masterman of the University of Nottingham, UK, visited Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Dr. Zhang Dequan, Deputy Director of IFST of CAAS and experts of the institute attended the meeting.
Zhang Dequan delivered warm welcome to Dr. Richard Masterman and briefed on the international cooperation status of IFST. IFST has built international cooperation platforms and established multilateral and bilateral joint research laboratories and centers with 24 developed countries such as the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. In 2015, IFST entered the Gateway platform as a Chinese partner of FAO South-South Cooperation, becoming the only international reference laboratory for FAO in its field and opened up research resources and talent exchanges to the world. In 2016, IFST began to implement the international supervisor policy, which expanded its international vision and the spectrum for international cooperation. Zhang pointed out that IFST and the University of Nottingham have broad prospects for cooperation in the fields of food nutrition, food processing, quality and safety. The two sides can develop substantive communication and cooperation in such aspects as talent cultivation, joint research platform construction, international conferences jointly launching and organizing international cooperation projects. Zhang expected a mutual benefit through joint efforts in the near future.
Dr. Richard Masterman agreed with Dr. Zhang and expressed confidence in the cooperation between the two sides. He said that University of Nottingham was highly compatible with IFST in such research fields as the relationship between human nutritional requirements and the nutritional properties of food materials: dietary fiber, peptides, polysaccharides, food intelligent manufacturing and 3D printing technology, and food safety non-destructive testing techniques: hyperspectral imaging, nuclear magnetic resonance. He also expected to find the start point and lay the foundation for further cooperation.
After the meeting, Dr. Richard Masterman visited National Pilot Plant on Agro-Products Processing and Key Laboratory of Agro-Products Processing, MOA.
