Speech at the opening ceremony

23 young researchers from Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam attended the workshop. Government representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development (LGOP) addressed and attended the opening ceremony. AII and Center for International Agricultural Research (CIAR), as the organizers of the workshop, also invited provincial government representatives from Gansu, Yunnan, Shaanxi and Guizhou provinces of China, major e-commerce companies, universities and research institutes to share experience in poverty alleviation through e-commerce.

Dr. Nie Fengying, the deputy director general of AII, also the executive deputy director general of CIAR-CAAS, expressed that in recent years, the emerging rural e-commerce and its promising impacts on poverty alleviation in China provided enlightening experience for other countries to fight against the economic and social problems.

Participants to the workshop shared their views and opinions on the practice and research in agricultural e-commerce and the value chain development. The ways to improve the e-commerce capability in poverty alleviation were discussed on the workshop, and the understanding about technologies that could be used in agricultural e-commerce was deepened as well.
 

Visit to the National Experiment Station for Precision Agriculture 

During the workshop, participants paid a visit to the National Experiment Station for Precision Agriculture in Changping District, Beijing. Some cooperation intentions on e-commerce and precision agriculture were achieved through the workshop.
