CAAS President Meets with UNIDO Director General
On October 20th, Prof. Wu Kongming, President of CAAS, met with Mr. Gerd Müller, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Prof. Wu Kongming pointed out that CAAS’s research work covers diversified aspects of agricultural production and rural development. Through technological support, CAAS contributed substantially to China's food security and nutrition with abundant supply and food choices. He stated that China's agriculture production practices serve both smallholders and large-scale modernized farms, which might be applicable in different types of countries worldwide. Prof. Wu emphasized CAAS's concern for global agricultural development issues, particularly in areas such as poverty alleviation and rural development, and its willingness to share its experiences with other countries. Through joint efforts with its global partners like UNIDO, CAAS provided effective solutions for global food security, environmental and ecological issues, as well as poverty alleviation.
Mr. Müller pointed out that UNIDO has long been concerned about poverty reduction and agricultural development worldwide, and established close cooperation with FAO on supporting agricultural development in developing countries. He agreed that China's agricultural scientific and technological innovation is a good example for other countries. UNIDO hopes to enhance extensive cooperation with CAAS in agricultural research and innovation, ensuring food security, addressing climate change, and enhancing agricultural resilience.
During the visit, Mr. Müller and his delegation also visited the National Crop Gene Bank and the National Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Park. Prof. Sun Tan, Vice President of CAAS, officials from Department of International Cooperation, Graduate School and Agricultural Information Institute attended the activities.
