CAAS Vice President Prof. Wan Jianmin Meet with Delegation of Tennessee University
Prof. Wan Jianmin, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) met with the delegation of Tennessee University on November 9th, 2017. Prof. Wan exchanged views with the Chancellor Tim Cross on strengthening collaboration in agricultural science and technology and education.
Prof. Wan extended his welcome to the delegation before the brief introduction on CAAS and its latest development. He noted that CAAS has been conducting positive collaboration with U.S. universities in agricultural science and technology and talent cultivation, the results of which have been fruitful. He was pleased to learn that Tennessee University is unfolding in-depth collaboration with the team led by Mr. Yang Qichang from the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture of CAAS, and he was glad with the present progress in applying for a joint high-tech project, named Sino-U.S. Facility Horticulture Foodstuff-Energy-Water System Optimization and Sustained Synergy Study, which is co-funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the U.S. National Science Foundation, He expected extended collaboration in other sectors of mutual interest in the future. In terms of talent cultivation and exchange programs, he suggested discussing the possibility of building a joint doctoral program relying on both Tennessee University and CAAS Graduate School.
Mr. Tim Cross expressed his gratitude to Prof. Wan for the warm reception. He gave a brief introduction on Tennessee University and its institute of agriculture and expressed that the joint application of the research project between both sides on protected agriculture was a collaboration of giants, and he looked forward to in-depth collaboration in more sectors in the future. Mr. Tim fully agreed with Prof. Wan in his proposing of advancing joint degree training of doctoral students initiative. He would keep close communication with CAAS and propel pragmatic collaboration between the two sides.
Also present at the meeting were Dr. Gong Xifeng, Director General of Department of International Cooperation of CAAS; Mr. Yang Qichang, Deputy Head of the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture of CAAS and Mr. Luo Changfu, Vice Dean of Graduate School of CAAS.
