Prof. Wu Kongming Meets Bangladesh Cabinet Secretary
January 10th, 2018, Prof. Wu Kongming, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), met with Bangladesh Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, as well as Bangladesh Ambassador Fazle Kalim in Beijing, China. The two sides had discussion on strengthening cooperation on agricultural science and technology and jointly building Collaborating Centre in the agricultural field.
Prof. Wu Kongming expressed warm welcome to the Aram delegation. He noted that both China and Bangladesh are agricultural countries, CAAS is willing to exchange views and work together with Bangladesh agriculture research institutions in hybrid rice technology, vegetables, flowers, tea, cotton, hemp and other disciplines, since food security, development of agricultural technology are major issues of common concern. Both sides are committed to promoting cooperation in the field of agricultural science and technology through many forms of cooperation, like convening seminars, joint applying for projects and establishing joint research center.
Aram extends his sincere gratitude to CAAS for providing postgraduate education to Bangladesh students, and for its; training of young science and technology personnel. He said that well-developed agriculture is critical to Bangladesh. Under the limit of natural conditions, population pressure and other factors, Bangladesh is facing many technical bottlenecks in food production for domestic food supply. He would like to enhance the continual cooperation on agricultural science and technology with China, and also agreed on the establishment of a collaborating centre in Bangladesh to promote the development of Bengal agriculture.
Dr. Gong Xifeng, Director General of Department of International Cooperation of CAAS, Dr. Luo Changfu, Vice Dean of Graduate School of CAAS, Dr. Li Xinhai, Deputy Director General of Crop Science Institute of CAAS, and Prof. Liu Xingang from Plant Protection Institute of CAAS attended the meeting.
