IPP Signs a Memorandum of Understanding with New Zealand AgResearch Limited
On October 8th to 13th, 2017, Dr. ZHOU Xueping, Director General of Institute of Plant Protection (IPP) of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), together with his delegation, were invited to visit AgResearch Limited (AgResearch), a New Zealand Crown Research Institute (CRI).
Dr. ZHOU briefly introduced the basic structure and historical development of IPP and its major scientific and technological achievements, the overview of International Collaborating Centre, and the development of international cooperation. Prof. ZHANG Zehua from Department of Weed Science, Rodent Biology and Rangeland Protection, delivered a brief introduction on the department’s platform construction and research progress, he also made a report on the locust & grasshopper sustainable management technology in China.
AgResearch hold 4 workshops with 35 presentations during this visit. The two sides conducted in-depth discussion on the comprehensive management of plant diseases and insect pests, biological technology and application, risk management of pest invasion, etc, all of which promote the better understanding of both parties.
“Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of Plant Protection of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and AgResearch Limited” was signed by Dr. ZHOU and Greg Murison, Science Director of AgResearch. After the ceremony, Dr. ZHOU was interviewed by AgResearch Limited Lincoln Center, he emphasized that the signing of the MOU had great significance for long-term cooperation between the two sides.
In accordance with the MOU, both sides agreed to establish all-round cooperation on, included but not limited, researchers’ exchanges, co-training graduate students, scientific information exchanges, the establishment of Collaborating Centre and the joint application of relevant projects, which indicates that a deep, multi-channel, long-term partnership between the two sides has been built. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, both sides reached the consensus to strengthen mutual exchanges and cooperation, expand the channels of cooperation, so as to achieve resource sharing and the win-win relationship. The signing of the MOU symbolizes that cooperation and exchanges between the two sides enters into a new era.

During this trip, IPP delegation paid visits to Ruakura、Grasslands、Lincoln center of AgResearch limited, Lincoln university, and Institute of Plant & Food Research. Prof. WAN Fanghao, Prof. JIANG Xiliang, Prof. GAO Yulin, and Dr. TU Xiongbing of IPP attended the above activities.
