CAAS President Meets with IFPRI Director General
On October 23rd, Prof. Wu Kongming, President of CAAS, met with Dr. Johan Swinnen, Director General of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
Prof. Wu Kongming highly praised the achievements made by both sides in policy research and capacity building. He stated that, building upon the existing cooperation foundation, CAAS and IFPRI will continue organizing the China and Global Agricultural Policy Forum and jointly releasing the think tank reports annually. Additionally, he proposed that the two institutions might align joint research projects with the new round of research planning of CGIAR. By leveraging the international cooperation networks, projects and platforms of both parties, CAAS and IFPRI could actively promote the dissemination of adaptable Chinese agricultural technologies to the world, which would contribute to addressing climate change and ensuring global food and nutrition security.
Dr. Swinnen expressed his gratitude for the attention and support by CAAS to the integrated reform of CGIAR. He hoped that IFPRI and CAAS would strengthen mutual cooperation in areas such as green, low-carbon, sustainable development, climate change adaptation, food security, and nutrition security. Together, IFPRI and CAAS could provide solutions to poverty and hunger issues in developing countries.
Prof. Sun Tan, Vice President of CAAS, along with officials from Department of International Cooperation and Agricultural Information Institute of CAAS, attended the meeting.
