On September 10, 2025, a four-member delegation from the Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture and Plant Growing (KRIAPG)—led by Academician Sholpan Bastaubayeva, Director General of KRIAPG, and Professor Svetlana Didorenko, Head of the Oilseed Crops Laboratory—visited ICS-CAAS for exchanges and discussions. Liu Luxiang, Secretary of the Leading Party Group of ICS-CAAS, Wang Wensheng, Deputy Director General of ICS-CAAS, and professors Diao Xianmin and Qiu Lijuan accompanied the visit. The two sides reached understandings on personnel exchanges and the exchange and utilization of germplasm resources, and signed an international cooperation agreement.

Liu Luxiang briefed the delegation on the institute’s research priorities and recent progress in crop genetic improvement and variety development, and shared experience on organizing interdisciplinary research platforms and translating scientific outcomes into practical applications. He expressed expectations for the two sides to build a long-term cooperation mechanism through regular exchanges and jointly-developed projects.

Academician Bastaubayeva spoke highly of the progress made by ICS-CAAS in crop breeding and related fields. She emphasized that future cooperation could be strengthened in germplasm exchange and utilization, joint breeding research, and collaborative project applications, so as to accelerate advancements in crop science and technology for both institutions.

The two parties also held in-depth discussions on recent developments in crop breeding research. The delegation toured key facilities, including the National Crop Genebank, the Wheat Mutation Breeding Laboratory, the Soybean Gene Resources Laboratory, and the State Key Laboratory of Crop Gene Resources and Breeding. Officials from the ICS Research Management Office and experts in related fields participated in the exchanges.
