The 7th China-EU Food Agriculture and Biotechnology Task Force Meeting Held in Shenzhen

Co-organized by Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and European Commission, 7th China-EU Food Agriculture and Biotechnology (FAB) Task Force Meeting was successfully held in Shenzhen from November 28th to November 29th, 2017. Prof. WU Kongming, Vice President of CAAS and Ms. Nathalie Sauze-Vandevyver, Director of Quality, Research & Innovation, Outreach at Directorates-General of Agriculture, European Commission, as the co-chairs of China-EU FAB Task Force addressed opening remarks at the meeting. The representatives from Economy Trade and Information Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC) also made speeches at the opening. Dr. ZHANG Huijie, Deputy Director General of International Cooperation Department of CAAS took the chair of the whole meetings. An activity of China-EU FAB Flagship Initiative Info Day was held as a side-event during the session. 


At the meeting, Prof. Wu pointed out that since the establishment of China-EU FAB Task Force in 2011, it has become an important dialogue mechanism for China-EU cooperation in the field of research and innovation under the support of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology and European Commission. The FAB Task Force played an important role in making cooperation planning of agricultural research and innovation, drafting project call topics and amongst other businesses. Prof. Wu emphasized that under the framework of FAB Task Force, the China-EU FAB Flagship Initiative has become a successful model of China-EU S&T cooperation and been in alignment with the common interests and benefits in cooperation of agricultural R&I between China and EU. Prof Wu also hopes that with the important meaning of the priorities for the next stage cooperation in 2018-2020 recognized by both sides, China-EU agricultural S&T cooperation will play more and more important role in promoting China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.
 

The Director from European Commission Ms. Sauze expressed that the EU attached great attention on the cooperation with China in every field especially the agricultural S&T. The FAB Task Force is an important bridge and dialogue channel for China-EU agricultural collaborations. She hoped that both sides will continue to keep good partnership and achieve more outcomes in 2018-2020.

During the meeting, representatives from both sides shared the 2018-2020 Work Programme of Horizon 2020, the FAB Flagship Initiative Planning, progress and experiences of on-going cooperation projects, etc. Meanwhile, the measures on implementation of China-EU Co-Funding Mechanism for Research and Innovation Cooperation and optimization of FAB Task Force were also discussed at the meeting. Finally, a joint conclusion of the meeting was formed and agreed by both sides.

Representatives from Directorates-General of Agriculture and Directorates-General of Research and Innovation of European Commission, and experts from Britian, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, etc., and from many agricultural research institutes, agricultural universities on China side also attended the above events.
