Environmental Pollution and Food Safety International Conference (2018) Successfully held in Beijing
Environmental Pollution and Food Safety International Conference (2018), organized by the Institute of Quality Standards and Testing Technology for Agro-Products of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IQSTAP/CAAS), was successfully held from October 24th to 25th , 2018 in Beijing. Over 130 representatives attended the conference, including representatives from Wageningen University and Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAAS, Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, Zhejiang University, Beijing Normal University, China Agricultural University, Capital Medical University, Alltech Company and so on.
The conference had 4 sessions, focusing on analytical technology, environmental behavior, risk assessment and health effect of natural and man-made pollutants in feed stuff, livestock products and environment. Professor Ron L.A.P. Hoogenboom from Institute of Food and Safety (RIKILT) of Wageningen University and Research gave a presentation entitled Transfer of dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs in farm animals, including PBK modelling. For the analytical methods, on behalf of his colleague Professor Stefan van Leeuwen, Professor Ron presented their research on analytical methods for legacy and emerging POPs on the conference. Professor Francesco Faiola from Italy shared his study on how to evaluate the adverse health effects of environmental pollutants with stem cell toxicology systems. Amy Bell-Elmohammed from Alltech Company discussed potential pollution arising from contaminants along food chain. Professor Su Xiaoou expressed the progress of detection and evaluation technology for feed and animal products safety in China. Chinese researchers highlighted analytical methods for contaminants, such as the report entitled Analysis Methods and Human Exposure Path ways for Chlorinated Paraffins delivered by Professor Wang Yawei from Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the presentation entitled Application of Ultraperformance Convergence Chromatography in Food Safety given by Professor Zhang Feng from Institute of Food Safety, Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine.
The organizer compiled a proceedings composed of over 30 papers from 22 universities and research institutes including Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAAS, Peking University, City University of Hong Kong, Sun Yat-sen University. The conference provided a platform for researchers to get together and discuss a wide range of issues on environmental pollution and food safety research. This is expected to be helpful for future development of the interdisciplinary science of environmental pollution and food safety.
