Zambian President Visits Institute of Western Agriculture for Exchange on Agricultural Innovations
Recently, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and his delegation visited the Changji Comprehensive Experimental Base of the Institute of Western Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), to explore breakthroughs in high-quality cotton cultivation and the application of efficient water-saving agricultural technologies.
During the visit, the Institute of Western Agriculture provided an overview of the progress made in technology-driven support for Xinjiang's agricultural development. Key highlights included breakthroughs in high-yield cotton production, comprehensive green biosafety control, significant increases in corn yield, agricultural non-point source pollution management, full mechanization of agricultural equipment, and the education of international students in agriculture.
President Hichilema inquired in detail about the growth cycle of early-maturing, high-yield cotton and the effectiveness of efficient water-saving agricultural technologies. He highly praised CAAS for its contribution to the high-quality development of Xinjiang's agriculture, noting that the full mechanization of agricultural production in the region has played a critical role in boosting the yields of key crops such as grains and cotton. President Hichilema emphasized the importance of further deepening cooperation in crop breeding, agricultural mechanization, and the efficient use of water resources. He also expressed interest in sending more Zambian students to study in China and exploring innovative, high-efficiency models for agricultural development together.
