CAAS Strengthens Agricultural S&T Cooperation with Canada
On October 29, Prof. Huang Sanwen, President of CAAS, met with The Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food of Canada, and his delegation, and the two sides exchanged views on further strengthening China–Canada cooperation in agricultural science and technology. Ms. Guo Naying, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), accompanied the meeting.
Prof. Huang noted that Canada plays an important role in global agricultural science and innovation, and that there is strong complementarity and broad space for cooperation between the two sides. He expressed CAAS’s willingness, under the framework of intergovernmental cooperation, to further optimize cooperation mechanisms, strengthen collaboration and joint talent training in key areas such as crop science, animal husbandry and veterinary science, plant protection, and agricultural resources and environment, and provide stronger scientific and technological support for the sustainable development of agriculture in both countries.
Minister MacDonald said that Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) attaches great importance to its cooperative relationship with CAAS and commended the positive outcomes achieved through long-term collaboration. He expressed the hope that, building on existing cooperation, both sides will continue to deepen exchanges between research institutions, encourage scientists from both countries to jointly address challenges in global agricultural sustainability, and elevate China–Canada agricultural S&T cooperation to a new level.
A Minister of the Embassy of Canada in China, and representatives from the Department of International Cooperation, CAAS, the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GSCAAS), the Institute of Crop Sciences (ICS-CAAS), the Institute of Plant Protection (IPPCAAS), and the Institute of Animal Science (IAS-CAAS) attended the meeting.
