Director General Gong Xifeng Presided the 22nd Annual Meeting of APEC Agricultural Technical Cooperation Working Group
On August 7th, 2018, the 22nd Annual Meeting of APEC Agricultural Technical Cooperation Working Group (ATCWG) was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. It was one of the significant activities of APEC Food Safety Week in 2018. Dr. Gong Xifeng, ATCWG Lead Shepherd, also Director General of Department of International Cooperation of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), leading a delegation attended the meeting.
The meeting was presided by the Lead Shepherd, Dr. Gong. On the meeting, the Working Plan of ATCWG this year was reviewed. The relevant economic representatives reported that the cooperative programmes had been carried on, involving reduction of food losses and wastes, agricultural sustainable development, women actions in agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, veterinary legal standard and market trade, coordinative development of urban-rural area, food value chain, organic agri-food market, etc. In principle, the meeting approved the proposal of China successively serving as ATCWG Lead Shepherd (Term: 2018-2019).
During the Food Safety Week, the delegation participated in the 2nd Joint ATCWG-HLPDAB-OFWG-PPFS Meeting, , and they proposed the suggestions planning to be added in the Leaders’ Declaration, including: sustainable and inclusive agricultural growth through science and technology cooperation, information and best practice sharing, and climate resilient agriculture production and food supply by facilitating innovation.
