Educational background
Prof. Wan Fanghao, an invasive biologist and entomology geneticist by training, received his BSc degree in Plant protection (1982) from Hunan Agricultural University, Changsha, China, his MS degree in Entomology (1984) from Hunan Agricultural University, Changsha, China and his PhD in Entomology (1989) from the Graduate School/Institute of Biological Control (IBC), CAAS, Beijing, China.

Research Area
Prof. Wan is leading the CAAS innovation team “Prevention and Management of Agricultural Invasive Species”. He is the Research Group Leader of Prevention and Management of Agricultural Invasive Species. This group comprises of four full professors, three associate professors, four assistant professors and some research assistants. He has organized harmonizing national teams to focus research on invasive alien species, including the invasive mechanisms, the development of management technologies for risk assessment, early-warning system, rapid detection, field surveillance, biological control and eco-restoration of agricultural and forest invaders. He was awarded the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress for Warning and Monitoring Technology of Main Alien Invasive Species in Agriculture in 2013.
He is the Director of Bio-Invasion Department, IPP-CAAS, Executive Director of Center for Management of Invasive Alien Species, MOA, China and National Leading Scientist of 973 Program. He is the Chairman of Sub-Society for Biological Invasions, China Society of Plant Protection, Member of Expert Committee of International Plant Protection Convention, Member of the second Teaching Committee, Graduate school of CAAS, Expert Committee of International Congress of Biological Invasions (ICBI), Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Biosafety, China, Editor-in-Chief Associate of Acta Entomologica Sinica China.
