In its 12th issues, 2020, Journal of Integrative Agriculture (JIA) published a special Issue of “Impacts of COVID-19 on Agriculture and Rural Poverty in China”. The Executive Editor-in-Chief of thisspecial issue is Prof. Huang Jikun, from Peking University, China.

The goal of this special issue is to provide empirical evidence of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on agriculture and the effectiveness of the coping strategies – both the mitigating measures adopted by farmers and the policy responses from governments at different levels – in China. Nine high-quality papers from Peking University, China Agricultural University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Huazhong Agricultural University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Purdue University, Texas A&M University, University of Vermont, etc. were published, with in-depth studies on: agricultural production, food purchasing behavior of consumers, agricultural and food marketing and international trade, rural poverty and policy responses.

As soon as the issue was published, findings from this Special Focus have been widely disseminated on WeChat, Sina Weibo, and overseas social media platforms for the first time, attracting attention of and winning high praise from academic circles at home and abroad. We believe these studies are valuable not only for China which is currently undergoing economic recovery and preparing to cope with potential similar health crisis in the future, but also for many other countries that are still suffering economic damage from the pandemic.
