International Workshop on Dryland Agriculture Development Held in Shenyang

The International Workshop on Dryland Agriculture Development was held in Shenyang on Jul. 31 – Aug. 2, 2019. With the theme of “Green Dryland Agriculture”, in-depth discussions was carried out during the workshop in terms of global sustainable development of dryland agriculture, research hotspots and key issues, climate change and drought control, water management of dry farmland, simulation of intelligent dryland agriculture system, residual film pollution control in farmland, etc.

 

18 representatives gave keynote speeches on the workshop including Prof. Chen Xuegeng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Prof. Mei Xurong, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Prof. Peter Carberry, Director General of International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Prof. Vinay Nagy from International Center for Agricultural Research in Arid Regions (ICARDA), Prof. Rachel MacDonald from International Water Management Institute (IWMI), etc. During the workshop, latest research progress of dry land agriculture at home and abroad were exchanged, long-term development orientation and research priorities of dry land agriculture were clarified, the program for the first International Conference on Dryland Agriculture was confirmed, and consensus on building an innovation network for dryland agriculture was reached.

 

The workshop was sponsored by Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture (IEDA), CAAS, and organized by Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences (LAAS). The workshop was chaired by Dr. Hao Weiping, Deputy Director General of Department of International Cooperation of CAAS. Prof. Zhang Yanqing, Director General of IEDA and Prof. Sun Zhanxiang, Vice President of LAAS also attended the workshop. More than 100 Chinese and foreign experts and scholars from ICRISAT, ICARDA, IWMI, Northwest Agriculture & Forestry University, Lanzhou University, Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and other institutions participated in the workshop.
