Professor Li Yong is Appointed as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment (AGEE)

On January 4th, 2018, Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture (IEDA) of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) organized a Workshop on the Development of the Journal Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment (AGEE). Prof. Wu Kongming, Vice President of CAAS attended and addressed the workshop. Dr. Zhang Huijie, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of CAAS; Prof. Shao Ming’an, Academician of CAS, research fellow of Northwest A&F University; Ms. Wu Yan, Publisher of Agriculture and Soil Science (Global) of Elsevier Science Publishing Group; Prof. Liu Baoyuan from Beijing Normal University, Winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Associate Editor of Catena; Prof. Bai Junhong from Beijing Normal University, Editor-in-Chief of Geoderma; Pro. Zhang Guanghui from Beijing Normal University, Candidate of One-hundred Talent Program of CAS; Prof. Yu Xinxiao from Beijing Forestry University; Pro. Lei Tingwu from China Agricultural University; Prof. Zhu Changxiong, Deputy Director General of IEDA-CAAS, chief scientists of research disciplines, team leaders, postgraduates and other related staff from IEDA also participated in the workshop. Dr. Zhang Yanqing, Director General of IEDA moderated the workshop.

In the address, Prof. Wu Kongming expressed congratulations to Li Yong on his appointment as Editor-in-Chief of the journal AGEE. He pointed out that President Xi Jinping presented the strategic target of “Three Orientations and Two World-class Positions” in the letter of congratulations to CAAS on occasion of the 60th anniversary. The appointment of Li Yong concretely reflects CAAS’ firm step towards the building of the world-class discipline and the first-class research institution, as well as the recognition from international peers of CAAS’s continuous efforts. The journal AGEE covers a wide range of CAAS’s major topics such as agricultural resources, agricultural ecology, environmental contamination remediation and many other disciplines, which are studied by 14 research institutions of under CAAS. The office of the Editor-in-Chief of AGEE is set in CAAS, which establishes a bridge between international journal and S&T workers in the field of agricultural ecology and environment in CAAS, or even in national wide.
Prof. Wu put forward three requirements to AGEE: 1.Making full use of both domestic and overseas resources to run the journal with strict quality control; 2. Selecting the latest and typical achievements in the field of agricultural ecology and environment in national wide, and compiling them into special issues or review articles with international influences; 3. Actively organizing and hosting series of international symposiums on agricultural ecology and environment to enhance the international academic impact of China.

At the workshop, Ms. Wu Yan made a brief introduction on AGEE. Representatives present at the workshop expressed suggestions on the development of AGEE, and discussed the ways to enhance AGEE’s cooperation with domestic research institutes.

AGEE is an International Journal for Scientific Research on the Interaction between Agroecosystems and the Environment, ranking the first place among 56 journals of comprehensive agriculture. The journal's JCR Impact Factor currently is 4.099. Li Yong is a Chief Scientist of IEDA-CAAS. He is the author and co-author of over 100 research publications in related international and national journals which have received more than 3000 citations and made him win several awards, including Humboldt Fellow, Germany (1997), The First Prize of ‘Shaanxi Province Sci. and Tech. Progress’ (2006), and the 2nd Prize of ‘National Sci. and Tech. Progress’ (2008). Prof. Li was selected as an editorial board member of AGEE in 2007, served as associate editor in March 2016, and was formally appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of AGEE in November 2017.
